# Practicing Stoic Philosophy Through Structure
##### A Good Story Needs a Good Structure — Structure Itself Is a Story
1. Add learning, writing to make work more interesting.
2. Routines are the structure that carries life philosophy.
3. Reflect on Stoic maxims while jogging and record your thoughts.
4. Reflect on your decisions while on the toilet and write them down.
## Make Structure Itself the Story
Once, while reading a book about "how to write a good story," I came across a great piece of advice:
> Don’t just express through dialogue. Let the structure tell the story.
This line stayed with me for a long time.
Can this idea be applied to daily Stoic practice?
## What Is the Structure of Life?
Everyday life already has a fixed structure: waking up, eating, going to the bathroom, working, sleeping.
What if I integrate Stoic philosophy into these existing rhythms, letting the "structure of life" itself carry the practice, instead of forcefully adding extra exercises?
Wouldn't that feel more natural and relaxed?
For example, reflecting on a maxim when waking up, practicing “assent” before meals, or reviewing conscious decisions before bed.
These are all simple philosophical practices done “along the way” within the existing structure — things that are already happening in daily life.
## My Running Routine Is a Structure
I once practiced "negative visualization" during my daily jogs, imagining all kinds of worst-case scenarios.
This training lasted for a long time, until one day, I had nothing left to imagine, felt bored, and stopped.
Now I think I can switch it up: pick one Stoic maxim each day, reflect on it while running, and speak my thoughts using voice-to-text.
After the run, I can hand it over to AI to organize, maybe even publish it.
This way, I get exercise and philosophical output — a complete win-win.
I can go further by setting a weekly theme:
For example, focusing on “Courage” this week and “Wisdom” next week.
Each day’s maxim relates to the theme, creating a small sense of coherence across the week.
## Work Is Also an Important Structure
Besides running, I also thought about applying this during my time cleaning the guesthouse.
Cleaning is already a highly repetitive task.
During that time, I could listen to Stoic philosophy podcasts or use AI (like NotebookLM) to blend “guesthouse management” and “Stoic philosophy” content and absorb both while cleaning.
In other words, running has one kind of philosophical practice, cleaning has another.
Even meals, commuting, and bedtime can be assigned different themes.
The structure of the day becomes a series of small stages, each one performing a fragment of philosophy.
## Merging Structure with Life
Let the structure of life carry the philosophy, rather than searching for extra time.
It’s like carving decorative patterns onto existing structural pillars, instead of worrying about what materials to use for expression.
> Let the structure speak for itself.
> Let life naturally become a laboratory for Stoic philosophy.
